'CRIMEAN VETERAN'S FUNERAL' - On Sunday afternoon Jan.26th,at Myland Parish,the funeral took place of ex-Sergeant-Major Kettel R.A.,an account of whose death appeared in a previous issue of the Essex County
Standard.The coffin was borne on a gun-carriage manned by the 25th Battery R.F.A.,and six sergeants acted as pall bearers.The band of the 1st Battalion,the Rifle Brigade was in attendance and played the Dead March in Saul.At the church the Rev.H.S.Srevens,Rector,officiated,and members of the choir were present."Now the labourers task is o'er" was sung and tat the graveside "Abide with me".A large number of perople,estimated at about 2000 witnessed the funeral.- the chief mourners were Mrs.Kettle(widow),Mr.D.Kettle(son),Mr and Mrs Long(daughter and son-in-law),Miss B.Kettle and Miss S.Kettle(daughters),Mrs.J.Hales,Miss G.hales(sisters-in-law),Mr.W.Hales,Mr.S.Hales(nephews),Mr.H.Hales,Mr.Chatfield,Miss Chatfield,Mrs.Tipper and Mr.Chatfield,jnr.,Dr.Whitby was also present.-Messrs.S.Bond and Son were the undertakers.

'DEATH OF CRIMEAN VETERAN - The death accured at midnight,January 20,of ex-Sergt.-Major Kettle,who served in the Crimea.Deceased resided in Myland and was in his 85th year.He served in the Royal Artillery and has a fine military record.He had been in receipt of a pension for about forty years.The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon at Myland church and it is ubderstood that military honours will be accorded.

Ex-Seargt-Major Kettle,a Crimean veteran,who resided in Myland,Colchester,died at midnighton Monday in his 85th year.The deceased,who had a fine military record, served in the Royal Artileery and has been in receipt of a pension for about 40 years.
